moth ball scent removal?

Does anyone have any tips for removing the overpowering moth ball scent from my grandmother’s cedar hope chest?

Place a small bowl with some Vanilla extract in it in the cedar chest. Change the Vanilla every two or three days. This takes a couple or three weeks but it works. Works for a fridge after a power outage where the food all spoiled also. For future reference, moth balls are not needed in a true “cedar” chest. The cedar itself repels the moths.
