Staining Wood Lament?

Hello. I was wondering can you paint wood lament furniture (i.e. Wal-mart/Lowes type of furniture) I ask because I have an entertainment center that is a light oak color but I want it to be like a cherry wood color. I was wondering if the stain would take at all. If not are there any other suggestions other than just plain painting it.

No, you cannot stain the walmart furniture – it’s made of pressed sawdust and printed paper. I’m not sure painting would even be a good idea, but if you decide to try, make sure you do a small test before you ruin the entire piece of furniture.
