What’s it called when a canopy bed has curtains that can be pulled around the entire bed, enclosing it?

And are they called curtains? I’m trying to find some online but not much luck.

A Canopy Bed is one that is made with a frame so you can attach curtain panels and a top piece to enclose it. A “Four Poster” has the verticle stiles, but needs a top frame added on to hang panels from.

You will buy or make curtains to suit your style, though a few places that sell the beds do also offer curtains too.

Just take your measurements, see how they would be hung from your frame (hardware or rod), and go buy regular curtain panels or drapes depending on your use and desired effect.

Insulating drapes will keep light and drafts out and buffer some sound. Sheers and lace are more for a romantic or feminine ambiance. Mosquito or any netting would be for a theme room (since most modern homes have screens on the windows and errant insects are uncommon).

It looks nice to match the window and bed panel style, but it doesn’t really have to. Same as with color, though complimentary but contrasting looks good too. An accent head panel or tall headboard can really add a special look. It depends on the feel you are trying for.

Tab top, and tie on panels are easiest to put up. It really depends on the top rails of your frame.

I recommend going to your basic brick and mortar store so you can see and feel the different materials available, then shop for price on line. If you are creative, then sew.

Also, with a little ingenuity, the top piece can be a comforter, bedspread or sheet that fits or is a larger size than your bed.

I have just built my own custom frame and set it up over my standard bed and am shopping for a set of insulated drapes to buffer my neighbor’s noise and drafts.
