Storing kitchen knives in a wooden block?

A friend told me this can be a bacteria-haven. Is this true? Can I disinfect my knife block? What should i do?

Okay you and I must know the same type of people. HA HA. My friend told me the same thing and I explained to her the difference between me and her is that I actually dry my dishes before putting them away. Yes. If you put your knives in wet then yes bacteria will grow on the wood and get on your knives. However if you dry everything then you will be okay. Trust me nothing grows on dry stuff.
