First time homebuyers; did we make a big no-no?
My wife and I are first time homebuyers. We had a house built with $500 earnest money. We did a VA loan with $0 down. We we’re approved on a $160,000 30 year fixed at 6.375%. We took a $141,500 30 year fixed at 6.2% instead and had a smaller house built. Follow me so far?
We close on April 18th (one week). The problem is, we went to a local appliance/furniture store and agreed to purchase a couple of items on credit. (TV and sectional sofa) I checked my credit and saw a hard inquiry from American General (the finance company). There is no open account with them on any of my credit reports (all 3).
We are new to this process and did not know that we could not do this. We were not told by our realtor.
Is this going to affect our purchasing the house?
Any hard inquiry does lower your credit score, but one inquiry is not the end of the world. You’ll get dinged a bit.
I’m not sure I follow you though. You said you were approved for the mortgage. That means they’ve already run your credit and regardless of the appliance store inquiry, you were approved. Where’s the problem?
