I am making a glass top table. How large a glass round can I put on a base of 22-1/2″? Can I do 42″?

The glass I am looking at is 1/2″ thick
In answer to Peter, this will be going on top of an old wine barrel. the top (mouth) is 22-1/2″ across.

It is wholly dependent on the strength of the base. A half-inch table top is pretty heavy; it HAS to be able to support the weight. I think the width is OK. Try cutting a 42″ circle out of cardboard and seeing how it looks first.
