Why don’t Americans consider buying an American made car ?

I know we’ve been burned in the past with quality issues from American auto manufacturers. However, if you study the quality numbers, American cars are right there with the foreign manufacturers. Why won’t most Americans consider buying an American made car and supporting “made in the USA”. Thousands of jobs are related to auto industry, if they go, so does the national economy.

For the most part it’s because Japanese and even more so now Korean offer more features for the $. This is mostly because the big 3 have big contracts with the Auto Union, which FYI the japs and koreans that have plants here don’t have to adhere to for whatever reason I don’t know.

Next is so called “Reliability”. Japanese cars are perceived as being more reliable. In truth nowadays reliability of American and Japanese cars is very close and both are much more reliable than say 30 years ago.

By the way, why is it that you don’t see that many Japanese cars in Europe if they are so reliable?

What most Americans don’t realize is that the big 3 support more US jobs than the Japanese or Koreans, yes even when this car is assembled in Mexico or Canada. And yes even when the Japanese car is assembled in the USA.
Because these American cars will have American parts in them that come from American companies that hire American people.

So when you buy that new American car and you spend a couple thousand more on it, know that you’re putting food on the table for 2.5 more Americans than you would if you bought foreign.
